Learning to Think Better Thoughts for a Healthier Self

Recently I had the privilege of working with some women who had been incarcerated in a county jail.  My intention was to present information to them to help them understand the power of their thoughts and beliefs.  In my thirty years of studying metaphysics and teaching it for over twelve years, I know how important it is to take control of our minds if we want to create the life we want.

These women that I worked with ranged in age from twenty to sixty plus.  All of them had been in this facility multiple times.  Several of them had been in and out for twenty to thirty years.  The main reason for their incarcerations was drugs.

I worked with a clinical psycho therapist, who happened to be a recovering meth addict.  She was still in school as she had not yet receive her degree.  Working with these women was part of her need to get hours to fulfill her requirements for that degree.

The three classes I taught twice a week were with maximum security, regular security and minimum security inmates.  From the very first class I could see these women light up with hearing that there is a way to think differently from their normal negative diatribe that they had been living with most of their lives.  Most of these women had been raped, beaten and abused from childhood.  Their stories were hard to hear but gave me an understanding of the path that they had chosen.

In Metaphysics it is important to not dwell on the past, not regurgitate all of the stories of our horrors and instead try to think thoughts of how we would like our life to be no matter of our abusive past.  I know about this as I came from an abusive background and have battled the desire to talk about it and constantly bring it into my present for most of my life.  However studying metaphysics has helped me to change that way of thinking and focus on the positives and what I want in my life instead of what I don't want or what awful things have happened to me.

This is why I love sharing the principles of metaphysics with others who struggle with being a victim of their circumstance.  Let me say that what these women had gone through is absolutely devastating, but continuing to focus on it and tell others about it obviously had not helped them in any way as they continued to get out of jail and return after using over and over again.  One woman got out in the morning and was back in the afternoon having been caught with drugs.

It became obvious to me that the psycho therapy classes they had been taking, some of them for years, was not giving them the help they needed.  In my observation of these classes most of what they did was to talk about all of the negative things that had happened to them and the negative things that were presently happening to them.  One young woman who had been repeatedly raped by her father from the age of six till she was fifteen, was still recounting those acts during each session I observed.  No one was giving her tools to change her way of thinking so she could move on into a better place in her mind.

As I began to teach them the principles of metaphysics, they lightened up and in the very first class had something new to start practicing.  There were more requests from other inmates to take my class.  When they returned to the next class they told me how they felt better from changing their negative talking to positive.  Some had experiences with other inmates that were less volatile since they caught themselves from acting out in a negative fashion and choosing to be less reactive.

They began to choose better thoughts that helped them to feel better.  I had nothing but glowing reviews from them and they all seemed to love this new information that gave them a new perspective.  Then it all changed when the psycho therapist obviously did not like that she was not getting the same reaction from her teachings.

I received an email from the Sargent in charge that my teachings were not valid and that they were just my opinion without facts to base them on.  I would not be able to continue with the class without more information about my background in these teachings.  It took me 3 months to qualify to teach in this facility.  I had to do serious back ground checks as well as give my over 35 year bio of my work.  It is extensive to say the least.  I wrote him back immediately and told him that metaphysics is not some kind of new age teaching that was an opinion, but rather a philosophy that began in 350 BC when Aristotle wrote the first books on Metaphysics.  It is a science that has been practiced by many for centuries.  He never responded.

So I was unable to return and teach this life changing information to these women who are in desperate need of something to help them find a better way of living.  It was heart breaking to me to know that our system isn't there to really help them, but to house them without the tools to change their lives for the better.  They for the most part are not criminals, but drug addicts.  They do not get the help they need to make better choices.  It was a disappointing to say the least.

I have moved on from that experience and hope to find a way to help women like those who have had these challenging lives.  I look forward to that day when that opportunity arrives.
