January 1st 2010, A new Year, A new Decade, A new Beginning

Well here we are in the beginning of a new year, a new decade, and a new way of thinking and taking care of ourselves; but only if you decide to make that choice. After all it is all about choices!

It has been nearly thirty years that I began teaching health and fitness. I have learned that not only do we need to train our bodies with exercise and feed our bodies with foods that are nutritious, but we need to train our minds as well.

We need to become strong in body, mind, and spirit. We know that exercise on a consistent basis is the only way to become fit and stay fit. We know that eating healthy most of the time if not all of the time is the way to a healthy body. But where many of us fail in the quest to become fit and healthy is the training of the mind. This is called mindfulness.

Let's begin this new year with a commitment to "Total Health" in Body, Mind, and Spirit". I will be talking with you about cardiovascular training, strength training, stretching, nutrition, meditation, and mindfulness.

So lets get started with our first topic "Mindfulness".

Do you know that every thought and every feeling you have is a choice that you make? Most of us make those choices thousands of times a day in an unconscious manner. What if you were conscious about every thought and every feeling that you have. There is such freedom in that, and we all have that ability to do so if we choose to.

For example: Lets say that your boyfriend breaks up with you for another. You might feel that you were not good enough, or pretty enough, or fit enough and that is why he left you. If you are practicing mindfulness you can choose how you want to think about this situation, for instance: You could choose to think that he left because he was not the right one for you and now you will have the opportunity to find someone who is, and you have something exciting to look forward to. You might think that you are not being real by thinking this, but your choice of thought is always your reality.

Another example might be thinking about something in the future. Perhaps you are not sure what you want to do in your life, so your thoughts take you to fear and failure. Why not think that you will be successful at what ever you do and fill your mind with thoughts of success rather than failure.

I assure you that all successful people had successful thoughts and visualizations way before they achieved their success. They could never be successful thinking only thoughts of failure.

Think and feel the things that you want to have happen to you in your life. Practice staying in positive thoughts and feelings throughout your day. Choose to believe your highest dreams will come true and then take the action to get you there.

Notice I said take action....you can not just think and feel things into existence, you must take the physical action too. If you want to be a chef, you can think about being successful at it, and feel in your visualization how that might feel, but if you don't learn how to be a chef it will never come to fruition. So think, believe, learn, and act on whatever it is you dream of doing.

So each day from today on be conscious of every thought and every feeling. Do they feel good? Do they feel bad? Choose which ones feel better and practice staying in those thoughts and feelings. Our bodies tell us physically when we are not feeling or thinking positive. We can feel an upset stomach, tight chest, or adrenalin surging through our bodies. These are warning signs to check into what your thinking and feeling, then change to the thoughts and feelings that feel better.

Today practice thinking about your new commitment to "Total Health" and how wonderful and successful you will be at being the best you can be. We will take this journey together in 2010. What an exciting way to begin a new year and a new decade.

Think something positive right now, feel your dreams coming true, and then act on making it happen. I promise that your life will be better for it.

Make sure you do some exercise today. Choose to eat well (natures foods) and choose to be in conscious thought!

I look forward to talking to you tomorrow.

Your friend and partner in Health,
Queenie
